NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Dozens of Vanderbilt University students got a rude awakening Friday morning when police notified them that their cars had been vandalized.
Police believe one student used his hand to bash in windows and cause other damage to cars parked on the Vanderbilt Campus. So far 27 vehicles have been found with damage.
Students awoke to find glass scattered and blood on several cars.
"Glass everywhere. Blood, that's gross. He didn't do anything but bust that windshield. He apparently likes the side of my car and got that everywhere," said student Alex Hudgens.
Nearly 30 cars, two dozen in one parking lot alone were vandalized. Windshields were busted and mirrors taken off, but police say nothing was stolen. They believe it was a random act of one student between four and six o'clock Friday morning.
"It's crazy that something like this could have happened," said Vanderbilt student Kelsey Margol.
Police spent the day talking to victims, while students spent the day questioning their sense of security.
"I'm hoping it's a onetime fluke. There aren't many parking options here on campus. I could park in the deck I mean the same thing could've happened in a deck," said Kelsey Margol.
It could be another day before all of the victims are aware of what happened. Meanwhile, those that know are already working to get the damage repaired.
"This is a great lesson in patience and forgiveness, but I'm pretty mad," said Hudgens.
Police said they do have a suspect in custody. They say a student called them after hearing something breaking and that student was able to give police a good description which led them to the suspect.
The student was questioned by police, and could face felony charges.
Vanderbilt Police said they will be conducting extra patrols in the area. Students will also see a heightened presence from security guards. Police stressed that if students hear or see something suspicious to give them a call.
