Metro Teen Wrongfully Arrested Twice for “Mistake”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - He's only 16-years-old, but within three months he was been wrongfully arrested, handcuffed and taken from school twice.

Being picked up from the Juvenile Justice Center by his mother is not the way 16-year-old Dalon Bolton thought his day would go.

"I was feeling good in the morning, but then one of the officers (asked) me to step to the side, he had to talk to me," Dalon.

It was at Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School where the arrest happened.

Dalon said the officers told him he was being arrested for failure to appear in court.

Tonya, Dalon's mother, said when she heard what was going on she was confused; because that court date was dismissed after her son was cleared for allegedly stealing equipment from the music production room at Pearl-Cohn, when the guilty student came forward.

She said she called the court clerk's office only to find out that her son was not in the system as even having a court day.

"How can you not have him in the system and they are at the school right now arresting my child? Nobody's making sense," she said.

Tonya said she went from worried to angry, especially when she hears this from an officer.

"It was a mistake, oops. I'm still not getting over the oops part," she said.

"Just frustrated about the situation, that's all. That's the only emotion I feel about it. Frustrated!" Dalon expressed.

Dalon's entire ordeal resulted from a mistake, not once but twice.

"Where the fault lies is where it needs to be dealt with," said Tonya.

There were a total of three students wrongfully arrested originally in this case, but out of the three Dalon was the only one arrested Friday.

NewChannel5 spoke with metro schools about this issue and because Dalon is minor, there is little information that they can share. A spokesperson said there was a mix-up and they are working to straighten things out.

The teen said since the first arrest he has only received one apology and that was from a teacher.

Dalon's mother called the Metro Nashville mayor's office and a representative who stepped in this morning to help make sure her son was released from custody.
