NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Millions of Tennesseans took part in a drill on Tuesday to prepare them for an earthquake.
The New Madrid fault line that travels through West Tennessee is expected to cause a quake sometime in the next 30 years.
It's predicted to be more powerful than a five magnitude on the Richter scale. It's Earthquake Awareness week in Tennessee and millions of people prepared by practicing in that drill.
Officials with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency said that Memphis would be hit the hardest and that the role of Middle Tennesseans in the event of an earthquake would be to support them.
"The important concept is that we all be aware that we'll all be involved in the response to help the people that are affected by the earthquake," said TEMA official Cecil Whaley
TEMA has a strategic plan in place to respond to West Tennessee and care for refugees who end up in Nashville.
