Woman Killed While Lying In Bed In North Nashville

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A woman lying in bed was killed after being hit by bullets from a shooting on Tuesday night.

Shots rang out just before 6:15 p.m. in the 1800 block of Haynes Street. Police said they weren't sure if someone pulled up in a car or fired while walking by on foot.

"One of the bullets went through the wall and hit a female victim who was lying in the bed. She's been transported to Vanderbilt," said Captain Anthony Carter with the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Tonya Ross, 43, was hit in the head while lying in bed at the home she shared with her parents. She died a short time after being taken to the hospital.

Police believe the house was targeted, but they're not sure of a motive or even if the suspects had the right house.

Detectives spent the evening interviewing residents in the neighborhood to find out if anyone saw anything.

Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
