SMYRNA, Tenn.- Skies might have been overcast, but residents in Smyrna were beaming about their brand new solar farm.
On Wednesday, the Smyrna-Rutherford County airport officials cut the ribbon on the six-acre site just east of the airport. The new solar site will use more than 3,000 photo-voltaic panels to generate power.
The power generated from the Smyrna site will be purchased by the Tennessee Valley Authority for use in its green power switch program.
The new Smyrna solar farm is one of just two major airport solar farms in the state.
