LA VERGNE, Tenn. – Police seized more than 100 packs of a synthetic drug along with a significant amount of drug paraphernalia and cash from a market in La Vergne on Wednesday.
It happened at Mark Market at 3004 W. Nir Shreibman Boulevard. Police said an undercover investigation led to a search warrant that allowed the seizure.
Officers seized 108 packs of 7H, a type of synthetic marijuana; 163 pieces of drug supplies including pipes, bongs, scales, and grinders; and $1775 in cash.
The market's owner, Beshoui Shenouda, and clerk, Rayek Tawardrous, were issued misdemeanor citations.
Local officer Corporal David Durham said he thinks need to make these drugs a felony before even more teenagers get sick or even die.
"It needs to become a felony just to even possess it because people are dying from this. They are going to hospitals and it just has bad effects on families," said the Corporal.
Synthetic drugs are banned by law in Tennessee. There are several varieties that can cause severe physical and psychological reactions and even death.
The TBI issued 89 misdemeanor complaints to 40 people in Operation Synful Smoke, a market raid in December.
