CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A couple was arrested after police discovered a large amount of marijuana inside their home, and found a child who had been injured.
Aaron Miller, 24, and Caroline Gregory, 23, were charged with several offenses including child abuse/neglect, two counts of simple possession, unlawful drug paraphernalia, and possession of drugs with intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell a controlled substance. Miller was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
Police were called to a home on Wallace Boulevard around 9 p.m. Thursday for a welfare check of the children living there. Once on the scene, an officer reported smelling odor of marijuana coming from inside of the apartment.
Officers found almost a quarter pound of marijuana, pills, drug paraphernalia and a partially burnt marijuana cigarette and a blunt. They checked on Miller's two children, and found that his two-year-old son had several injuries, including a large laceration on the back of his head that appeared to be several days old, both ears swollen, bruising to the forearm and buttocks, and several facial abrasions.
Police said Gregory admitted to causing the severe bruising/lacerations to the head and ears when she forcibly snatched the child from a bed, and that she caused the bruising on his buttocks when she spanked him.
Neither Gregory nor Miller sought medical attention for the boy. The child was taken to Vanderbilt for treatment.
Miller's daughter, who is 7, was not injured.
The Department of Children's Services was contacted, and the kids were turned over to state custody.
While officers talked with Miller, they also found he was sitting on a sweatshirt that hid a loaded handgun.
Miller was held on $171,500 bond; Bond for Gregory was $261,500.
