NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Dwayne Stanford of Henderson County has been chosen trooper of the year by the Tennessee Highway Patrol for the second straight year.
He was honored for arresting suspects on various charges and for surviving a shooting during a traffic stop last Sept. 28. He was wearing a bulletproof vest.
Stanford is a third generation trooper who has been on the force since 2007.
Meanwhile, Max Milam of the THP's Jackson district was named dispatcher of the year for his quick handling of the response to the shooting of Stanford.
