MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For 11-year-old A.J. Frederiksen and his two younger sisters they can only go outside to play in their backyard. That's because when they were in front yard Wednesday two people in a strange car pulled up, rolled down the window and asked a very odd question.
"He asked us if we wanted candy or ice cream," Frederiksen said Friday.
Answering "no", A.J. says he knew something wasn't right. "The car almost looked like it was about to do a complete u-turn and come straight back for us, so we… all of us ran towards the house."
"Normally you wouldn't think something was going to happen," said their mother, Amanda McClure, was inside working on her computer. "The three kids come running in the house and said oh mommy, mommy two guys approached us and they offered us candy and ice cream. They were trying to get them in the car."
McClure says she looked outside and saw the car just sitting there. They believe it's a dark colored Pontiac with tinted windows.
A.J. couldn't see the driver, but remembers what the passenger looks like.
"He had sort of a square face. He had orange-ish red hair, buzz cut," he recalled.
He also didn't forget training about what do around strangers. Training no one ever thought they would need, but are very glad they had.
"It's very scary because I would never think something like that would happen," Frederiksen said.
A.J. and one of his sisters went through "r.a.d." or Resist Aggression Defensively program from the Murfreesboro Police Department.
