NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A major highway in Bellevue was shut down following a head-on collision that left two people critically injured after one victim fell asleep while driving.

It happened around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 70, near Newsom Station Road. Police said two cars collided head-on. Two people were transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said the two cars, a Chevrolet Cavalier and a Chevrolet Impala crashed in the 8300 block of Highway 70. The driver of the Cavalier, 18-year-old Dylan Boldus, was critically injured.

Investigators believed the driver of the Impala William Graves, 33, of Charlotte, Tennessee fell asleep behind the wheel, crossed the double yellow line and hit Boldus head-on.

Both victims were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Graves, who wore a seatbelt, is in stable condition. Boldus, who was not wearing a seatbelt, remains in critical condition.
