Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-  A former guard at New Visions Youth Development Center in Nashville has been charged with several counts of rape after allegedly having sexual relations with a 17-year-old female resident.

Police said a grand jury indicted 27-year-old John Greer on two counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure.  Officials believe that Greer developed a relationship with the teen over a period of several months and is alleged to have had sexual contact with the girl at the center.

Sex Crimes Detectives said they began an investigation in November 2011 after other residents at New Visions suspected a relationship between Greer and the teen.

New Visions Youth Development Center is run by the State of Tennessee and is a facility for delinquent girls from 13-19 years of age. According to the center's web site, they admit teens who have committed a violent offense or several felony offenses.

Greer surrendered himself into police custody on Monday.

According to the Department of Children's Services Greer was terminated on August 1, 2011 based on allegations of inappropriate contact with a female youth in state custody.
