BEDFORD COUNTY, Tenn. – Authorities said a man walked into the Bedford County Sheriff's office on Thursday morning, and admitted to killing a man in White County.
Sheriff Randall Boyce said James Lackey told deputies he had shot a man at a house on Franks Ferry Road in Doyle.
Lackey was held in Bedford County until the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and detectives in White County found the body using Google Earth's satellite imagery technology. The victim, identified as James Caldwell, was shot to death.
The sheriff said Lackey claimed the shooting was in self-defense, but authorities were still investigating. He also told deputies he was afraid to turn himself in in White County.
Lackey was charged with criminal homicide and was being held on a $1 million bond in the White County Jail.
