FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) – They are known as the 101st Airborne Division, but the soldiers at the Fort Campbell military post will hit the ground Friday for a division run -- an event that will involve more than 20,000 soldiers.
The military said the four-mile run is being held to benefit the morale of the soldiers, who have just recently finished returning from deployment to Afghanistan to the post on the Kentucky-Tennessee border. The last group touched down Monday, marking the first time in two years that all units were on post.
Leading the run will be Major General James C. McConville, who took command of the 101st last August.
