Weather Causes Mayor Dean To Send Gov’t Employees Home

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Mayor Dean announced Friday afternoon that due to the severe weather threat in middle Tennessee, all non-essential government employees would be allowed to leave early.

The announcement came around 3 p.m. on Friday. Mayor Dean said that non-essential employees were free to go home immediately, unless they feel safer where they were.

Dean said that due to the fact that the worst of the storm was expected to hit between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., during the normal commute time for many employees, it was best to release employees early. Dean has also encouraged private employers to consider early dismissal to ensure their employees' safety.

Metro's Office of Emergency Management has been fully activated. That means agencies are debriefed & ready to respond. At a debrief on Friday morning, Metro officials said that the worst weather would be in Nashville between 1 and 6 p.m. along the I-40 corridor.
