KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Southeastern Conference has named Tennessee forward Jarnell Stokes the player of the week.
The freshman from Memphis graduated high school a semester early and joined the Volunteers in January. He earned freshman of the week honors on Jan. 23.
Stokes shot 76 percent and averaged 14.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, three blocks and 1.5 steals in wins against LSU and Vanderbilt. Despite suffering a high fever before facing the Commodores on Saturday, Stokes had five blocks to come within one rejection of the school's single-game record.
He's averaging 9.1 points and 7.5 rebounds in 11 games this season.
Tennessee (18-13) has won eight of its last nine games and finished second in the SEC. The Vols will face either Mississippi or Auburn on Friday in the conference tournament quarterfinals.
