KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee coach Derek Dooley has hired Josh Conklin to serve as the Volunteers' safety coach, replacing Terry Joseph.
Tennessee announced Conklin's hiring on Friday. Joseph, who followed Dooley from Louisiana Tech to Tennessee two seasons ago, was hired earlier this week by Nebraska coach Bo Pelini.
Conklin has spent the past two seasons as defensive coordinator and safeties coach at The Citadel. In both seasons, Conklin's Bulldogs defense ranked third in the Southern Conference in total defense.
Conklin has also spent time at Wofford and South Dakota State. He graduated from South Dakota State in 2003, starting at linebacker his junior and senior seasons.
Conklin is the eighth new assistant hired by Dooley following the 2011 season. The Vols open spring camp on March 26.
