NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Corey Corbin is suing Mt. Zion Baptist Church for five million dollars.
This is the second lawsuit against the church. The first was filed last month by former member Valencia Batson. Her suit included testimony from several other anonymous women alleging sexual misconduct by church leadership. Corbin is the first male to speak out publicly.
"I left town. I lost my job and it was a direct link to all this. I've been in a very dark place for years," said Corbin in an exclusive interview with NewsChannel 5.
Corbin said he had sought marital counseling from Bishop Joseph Walker.
"My ex-wife and I had issues and him being my spiritual leader I chose to confide in him," said Corbin.
That's a choice Corbin said he now regrets. He filed the lawsuit against Mt. Zion claiming Bishop Walker used the counseling to start a sexual relationship with Corbin's wife and that ended their marriage.
Mt. Zion has strongly denied any wrongdoing and calls the claims made in the lawsuits ridiculous and sensational. Lawyer for the church this week filed motions to have all or part of the Batson lawsuit dismissed.
