Middle Tennessee To Play At Minnesota In 2014

Posted: Updated:

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Minnesota will host Middle Tennessee in football in 2014, giving the Gophers eight home games that season.

The schools announced Tuesday they'll play at TCF Bank Stadium on Sept. 6. Middle Tennessee will be paid a guaranteed $775,000 to come. The teams met in 2010 in Murfreesboro, Tenn., a 24-17 victory by Minnesota that was last by then-head coach Tim Brewster. The Gophers will also host the Blue Raiders on Sept. 16, 2017.

The switch was prompted by Miami University's request to move Minnesota's scheduled visit to Oxford, Ohio, from 2014 to 2016. That filled the last nonconference opening for 2016 and gave the Gophers a chance to play an extra home game in 2014.

Eastern Illinois, North Carolina and San Jose State will also play at Minnesota in 2014.
