KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee coach Derek Dooley wants to be able give opponents "multiple" looks on defense this year and new defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri is implementing a 3-4 scheme for the Volunteers.
Sunseri, who spent the past three seasons coaching linebackers at Alabama, said Wednesday he hopes to have about 80 percent of the defense installed by the end of spring practice.
Sunseri said he is pleased with the defense's effort through six practices, and is looking for the unit to play together and with toughness.
The Vols will have their first scrimmage of the spring on Friday. The goal is for the players to have few mental errors so they can play fast, allowing coaches to get a good evaluation of the team after two weeks of practice
