Driver Crashes Car Into Tree Following Short Pursuit
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A police chase in downtown Nashville ended in a crash overnight, but the driver took off.
It started when the driver refused to stop after an officer tried to pull him over at Broadway and 4th Avenue.
The short pursuit went down 4th Avenue heading toward a train crossing, so police called it off.
"After Sgt. Beck had already terminated the pursuit, he could see the train tracks up ahead. And right now the investigation is early, but we believe that the driver made a quick turn to avoid a train," said Metro Police Captain Preston Brandimore.
After the turn, the driver ran his car into a tree. He allegedly got out and ran away, leaving a friend behind in the passenger seat.
Police said they know who the driver was and they are getting a warrant for his arrest.
