DECATUR COUNTY, Tenn. – The Decatur County Sheriff's Department said that the fire that killed the local fire chief and injured two other firefighters was caused by arson.
Decatur County District Attorney General Hansel McCadams vowed at a press conference Monday that investigators would do whatever it takes to find out who set the fire that killed Kenny Fox.
Fox died April 7 while responding with his volunteer firefighting unit to the Oak Hill Café Bar and Grill in Parsons. Brothers Jeremy and Randy Inman were seriously hurt.
"Agents have spoken to a great number of witnesses and recovered pieces of evidence, because of the nature of this homicide investigation we cannot comment on or reveal any other detail about the fire," said McCadams.
McCadams said those caught setting the fire will be charged with first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated arson.
Chief Fox, 39, was also a sergeant in the Decatur County Sheriff's Department. He left behind a wife and three sons.
The Tennessee Fire Marshal's Office's Bomb and Arson Section and other agencies were called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
