PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) - Testimony has begun in a U.S. Coast Guard hearing on the collapse of a Tennessee River bridge in western Kentucky.
A span of the Eggner's Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake fell when a cargo ship, the Delta Mariner, hit the steel bridge on January 26.
The Coast Guard and the National Transportation and Safety Board are jointly investigating the crash.
The Paducah Sun reports the hearing began Monday at Paducah City Hall and testimony focused on previous damage to navigation and bridge lights.
The bridge serves as the western entrance to Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area. It is expected to be reopened to traffic before Memorial Day.
