HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A jury has convicted a Fort Campbell soldier of hiring a hit man to kill his ex-girlfriend.
The Kentucky New Era reported 21-year-old Joshua Huntley accepted a plea deal Tuesday on his sentence after the jury returned with a guilty verdict. The deal calls for prosecutors to recommend Huntley serve 11 years in prison. The charge carries a sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison.
The defense attorney for Huntley, who is assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at the sprawling military post on the Kentucky-Tennessee line, had argued that his client wasn't serious about wanting to kill the woman.
As part of the deal, Huntley is allowed to remain free with an ankle monitor until final sentencing on June 20.
