Local Fans Praise Pat Summitt

Posted: Updated:

HENRIETTA, Tenn. - In Henrietta, Tennessee everyone knows everyone and everyone remembers former high school basketball star Pat Summitt.

Summitt grew up in the small town of Henrietta in Cheatham County. Back then she went by Trish, and in the high school trophy case you'll find her jersey. There's a signed basketball, a few trophies and other mementos.

After leaving the basketball courts in Middle Tennessee, Summitt went on to become the winningest college basketball coach in history. She announced her plans to step aside from the position on Wednesday.

The move comes less than a year after her diagnosis with early onset dementia-Alzheimer's type.

The news of Summitt's move didn't take long to reach the halls of her old high school, where many were sad to hear of her leaving.
