Section Of I-24 Closed This Weekend For Bridge Work

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A three-mile section of Interstate 24 will be closed this weekend near downtown Nashville to allow bridge work to be done.

I-24 eastbound and westbound will be closed from the I-24/I-65 split north of downtown to the I-24/I-40 split east of downtown beginning at 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Detour signs will be posted, directing motorists to take the west loop around downtown. Overhead message signs will direct motorists around the closure.

All work will depend on favorable weather.

Workers will remove deteriorated concrete from bridge decks and set barrier rails to the interstate bridges that cross over Woodland and Main Streets. The bridges are 51 years old.

The project will take 13 weekends this spring and summer.

The repairs are part of an $8.7 million project to rehabilitate bridges.

It will impact traffic Friday for thousands of fans who are headed home from the Nashville Predators game at Bridgestone Arena. TDOT said the best thing you can do is plan ahead of time exactly how you'll get home from the game.
