TSU Campus Police Officer Injured

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Tennessee State University Campus police officer was injured Monday night.

The incident happened at the Gentry Center on the campus around 9:30 p.m.

Police said he was working security during a fraternity and sorority event when he asked the crowd to back up because the event was over. When he turned to walk away, he was punched and knocked unconscious.

That's when a male student punched him in the face, knocking him unconscious. Witnesses said things ended as quickly as they started.

The officer was transported by ambulance to Baptist Hospital for evaluation, but had regained conscious shortly after the incident. He was expected to be ok.

The officer was an undercover officer wearing plain clothes, and never identified himself as a cop.

The TSU Police chief said it is a normal occurrence when they have a large crowd on campus.
