NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police have made an arrest after a fight left one man dead and another seriously injured near downtown Nashville.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday when 47-year-old Brian Benson walked into a market on Lafayette Street with obvious head and body injuries. He asked for help, saying a man had beaten him and killed another man in a fight.
Police discovered the body at what is believed to be a homeless camp in the woods near Fort Negley. Upon investigation, officials determined the body was 54-year-old James M. Clinard.
"Each crime scene has its own unique characteristics that make it difficult to investigate. We have the Crime Scene Unit is out here, and they'll do their investigation," said Metro Police Captain Kenneth Walburn.
Police said that Benson told them that Clinard had been attacked by 39-year-old Kelly Grimm after the three had been eating and drinking together.
Grimm was still at the camp when officers arrived to investigate. He was taken into custody and charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault.
Benson was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he is expected to be ok.
