MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Murfreesboro Police participated in a unique training exercise to help them with car-pedestrian crash reconstruction.

The program involved video taping a speeding car colliding with a crash test dummy.

"Each crash is different, but this class is teaching the dynamics of what happens, what to look for," said Drew Darnall, member of the crash team.

The video of the collisions help officer better understand what happened in a crash after the fact. Very rarely will a witness ever see the moment of impact.

Watching the collision in slow motion helps officers learn how to better estimate speed, the point of impact, and the angle the car was traveling.

Fatal car-pedestrian crashes have declined in recent years in Murfreesboro.  But the training exercise is the police department's effort to using cutting edge programs to help improve investigations.
