Children's Hospital Gets $1.5 Million Pledge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Junior League of Nashville has committed $1.5 million to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt University to care for children with sickle cell disease and asthma.

The funds will help establish a medical home devoted to caring for such patients at the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center in Nashville. Medical personnel from Children's Hospital and Meharry Medical College will care for the children.

A hospital spokesman said the community-based program will create one standard of care for children battling these chronic illnesses. Many children with sickle cell disease often struggle with asthma.

The Junior League has been a partner with Vanderbilt on various projects since 1923.
