28th Avenue Connector Construction Hits Halfway Point

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Construction on the 28th Avenue Connector is more than halfway complete.

Crews installed 18 massive support beams in March and placed the concrete deck for the bridge in April.

The route will be a one-third mile road, connecting 28th Avenue in North Nashville to West End.

The connecting bridge will span the CSX railroad that runs behind Centennial Park, and will include sidewalks, bike lanes, and bus stops.

It will be green with side plantings and a median that will serve as a rain garden, reducing and filtering stormwater runoff.

Mayor Karl Dean and community leaders broke ground on the project on May 24, 2011.

The estimated completion date for the $18 million project is September 2012.
