MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A Shelby County mansion in which singer-songwriter Isaac Hayes died has been heavily damaged by fire.
According to The Commercial Appeal, the current residents of the 7,000-square-foot home reported the blaze shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Shelby County Fire Department spokesman Brent Perkins said the fire was very difficult to fight because of several attic spaces under the roof and mature trees surrounding the home.
Three people in the home when the fire erupted were treated for mild smoke inhalation.
Hayes previously owned the home where he was found dead next to a still-operating treadmill in 2008. He was 65. The home was foreclosed on after his death.
Hayes's recording of the theme from "Shaft" was a hit for him, but he also co-wrote more than 200 songs that other artists recorded.
