NASHVILLE, Tenn. - About 100 World War II veterans and their guardians left Nashville International Airport on an honor flight on Tuesday morning.
The free roundtrip flight on US Airways was made possible through a partnership between Music City Honor Flight and the Airport Authority.
The veterans are headed to the nation's capital to spend the day visiting memorials, including the World War II Memorial, to reflect on the sacrifices that have been made for the country.
"Some of us got lucky, a lot of them didn't and we're here to honor all of those on both sides," said guardian Joe Lawrence.
The Music City Honor Flight is a Nashville organization established to honor the state's World War II vets.
NewsChannel 5 has a crew with them to document the experience. You can watch the full report next Monday at 6 p.m.
