FILE PhotoFORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) - A Fort Campbell soldier has been sentenced to life without parole in the deaths of his estranged wife and another woman in central Kentucky.
Brent Burke had four mistrials in civilian court in Hardin County, leading to charges being dismissed, before the Army charged him in the 2007 slayings of Tracy Burke and her former mother-in-law, Karen Comer.
Brent Burke was found guilty earlier Tuesday by a military panel at Fort Campbell. A sentencing hearing was then held, and the jury set the sentence Tuesday evening.
Tracy Burke and Comer were found fatally shot at Comer's Rineyville home in 2007 after young children in the home called authorities.
The Kentucky New Era reported that defense attorneys for Burke rested their case Monday after calling one witness -- a state police detective who testified about inconsistencies in what two children said they saw the night of the slayings.
