FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - A Hagerstown man convicted of a 2004 rape in Frederick based on a DNA sample he submitted in Tennessee has been sentenced to life in prison.
Twenty-eight-year-old NaJarred Walker was sentenced Tuesday in Frederick County Circuit Court. Walker, in a statement in court, denied the charge.
The News-Post of Frederick reported that the victim, a teenage girl, was attacked in November 2004 under a downtown Frederick bridge.
Walker moved to Tennessee, where he was convicted in Davidson County of offenses including attempted robbery, aggravated assault and drunken driving from 2008 to 2010.
In March 2011, Maryland State Police notified Frederick police that Walker's DNA in a national database matched evidence collected from the rape victim.
By then, Walker was living in Hagerstown and wanted for a Tennessee probation violation.
