PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. – A young child was found in a car with an alleged drunk driver, and the child's mother was charged after she was found passed out inside her home.
A Highway Patrol officer made a traffic stop for speeding just outside Cookeville, and then charged the driver with DUI.
Authorities found a three-year-old child in the seat beside the driver. He allegedly told the officer his mother was at an apartment nearby and led him there.
The door was open and police found the mother unconscious on the floor, allegedly drunk.
She told them she didn't know where her child was, and was taken into custody on child abuse and neglect charges.
Police were investigating how the child ended up in the car with the man who was initially arrested.
