Fire Marshal Says Be Fire Safe In Hotels

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The state fire marshal's office is urging travelers to be fire safe while staying in unfamiliar places.

Officials said care should be taken to stay at hotels or motels that have smoke alarms and fire sprinklers.

They also urge travelers to read the escape plan posted in hotel rooms and be aware of where stairs and exits are.

Other tips include taking a flashlight as part of your traveling kit, counting the number of doors between your room and the exit and making sure you have a room key with you in case you are forced to return to the room.

In event of a fire, never try to use the elevator, but walk down the stairs.
