NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Officers took a burglary suspect, who escaped from a police cruiser, back into custody near the NewsChannel 5 building on Friday morning.
Officers initially arrested 28-year-old Derek Wayne Ferrell on burglary charges. Police said he threw a large piece of concrete through the front door of the East Side Fish Restaurant on Gallatin Pike around 3 a.m.
They put him in handcuffs and took him down to the Criminal Justice Center for booking.
The arresting officer was leaning out of the car to open the gate to the intake center, when he said Ferrell pulled his arms from behind him, rolled down the back window and opened the door.
Officers chased him for a couple blocks, catching up to him in the 700 block of James Robertson Parkway.
It was unclear if Ferrell will face additional charges for his attempted escape.
