LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Louisville Police Chief Steve Conrad is appealing to the public to help in the investigation of an unusually chaotic shooting scene that resulted in three deaths.

Conrad said Friday that it was a quiet night in the Russell neighborhood of western Louisville, where extra police were on patrol. On Thursday afternoon, six people were shot during a bizarre scene in which onlookers were diving for cover as shots rang out even while officers responded to the shooting deaths of two men.

Police said in addition to the two men, a woman who was part of the on-looking crowd was shot to death during an argument over the incident. Three more remain hospitalized.

Conrad said police still have unanswered questions and it is premature to discuss possible charges.
