FRIENDSHIP, Tenn. (AP) - A suspect has been charged with attempted first degree murder in the shooting of the Friendship police chief during a robbery.

Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce told WNWS-FM that 39-year-old Craig Michael Barbee of Dyersburg was in custody on Saturday after an overnight manhunt that included law enforcement from Dyer County and Dyersburg with aerial support from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Jackson Police.

Searchers had been looking for two suspects. Klyce said the investigation is ongoing in relation to the second suspect.

Friendship Police Chief Bill Garrett was flown to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis after the Friday night shooting during a robbery at a Dollar General store. On Saturday, he was listed in serious condition.

Sheriff's office personnel did not know whether Barbee had an attorney.
