JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - An intense thunderstorm not only rained out the Jackson Generals' Southern League game with the Mobile BayBears, it caused minor damage to the stadium.
The game was scheduled for Sunday evening, but the thunderstorm struck about 20 minutes before game time, sending water cascading down the steps at Pringles Park and knocking down a section of the left field wall. The 16-foot-tall section was part of a gate that can be opened to allow machinery onto the field. The piece weighs about 500 pounds.
No one was hurt.
Generals' General Manager Jason Compton said the wind-whipped rain was blowing sideways and stung when it hit people.
The rainout was scheduled to be made up Monday, making the scheduled game a doubleheader, starting at 12:05 p.m.
