JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - A former Jackson police officer has been sentenced to 22 months in prison for conspiring with another officer to steal money from a shooting victim.
The U.S. attorney's office announced the sentencing of 36-year-old Marvent Brooks on Monday. Brooks was also sentenced to three years' supervised release following his prison term.
Brooks pleaded guilty in January to violation of civil rights of a shooting victim by stealing approximately $1,200 from the victim while he and another officer processed the crime scene.
He also pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a short-barreled shotgun.
His co-defendant, David Dreblow, also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate civil rights and is scheduled to be sentenced in July.
