Fmr. Montgomery Co. Probation Officer Accused Of Theft

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested a former Montgomery County probation officer on theft charges on Tuesday.

Derrel Denton, 40, was indicted and charged with one count of official misconduct.

The TBI said Denton was working as a Montgomery County Juvenile Court Probation Officer from October 2010 to July 2011, when he stole restitution payments totaling more than $5,000 from approximately 17 juveniles under his supervision.

Denton also had outstanding warrants against him including driving on a revoked license, seat belt violation, and driving without a registration or insurance.

He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on $6,000 bond. An initial court date has not been set.

The date of his initial court appearance has not yet been determined.
