DONELSON, Tenn.- Hermitage
Precinct officers Wednesday evening charged three people with aggravated assault
for stabbing a man where many Nashvillians go to run or walk their dogs.
Police say an argument broke out between a man and a group of
hitch-hikers at the Kohl's Trailhead at the Stones River Greenway.
Terry Tram, a 49-year-old man
from Hermitage was walking on the greenway at
3:00 when he got involved in an argument with the suspects. During the argument,
he was stabbed in the chest near his neck.
Tram was transported to Summit Medical Center and then to Vanderbilt.
He is in critical condition, but he's expected
to survive.
Police say a female witness
gave officers a good description of the attackers. The knife believed to
have been used in the attack was found nearby.
The suspects: Marcus Marcelo, 30, and
Rachel Marcinek, 20, are homeless and believed to have traveled to Nashville by
freight train from Arizona, and Joseph Ostling, 36, who earlier this year was
living in a tent off of Mills Road.
Bond for Marcelo and Marcinek
is set at $25,000 each. Bond for Ostling is set at $30,000. He is also
charged with public intoxication, resisting arrest and criminal trespassing.
Detectives will talk with
the victim as he heals to further investigate what started the argument and
stabbing.
Walkers and runners said they still believe the trial is safe, and this
won't keep them away.
