Posted: Updated:

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The mosquito-borne virus that causes West Nile Disease has now been detected in seven Shelby County zip codes.

Health Department coordinator Heather Burton Reynolds said Wednesday that the virus was initially detected May 8 -- the earliest it has ever been found in the county.

The department is spraying insecticide from trucks to kill adult mosquitoes and urging residents to make sure stagnant water doesn't collect around their property.

The virus was detected in mosquitoes that were trapped and tested. There have been no confirmed human cases of West Nile yet.
