Fraternity To Pay $7.2M After Lawsuit

Posted: Updated:

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.- A mid-state fraternity is paying out a huge amount of money, after a student was injured during a welcoming event.

Sam Dowlen won a stunning $7.2 million dollars against the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at Tennessee Tech.

Dowlen was a freshman in 2009 when he hurt his neck going down a giant Slip and Slide that ended with a ramp plunging people into a pool. He had to undergo spinal fusion surgery from his injuries. A jury did place some of the blame on Dowlen, but said the majority was against the fraternity.

Dowlen also sued the University, but it was found not at fault
