Body Of Kidnapping-Slaying Suspect Goes Unclaimed

Posted: Updated:

HARDEMAN COUNTY, Tenn. - Mississippi investigators are trying to determine what to do with the body of a man who abducted two Tennessee girls after he killed their mother and oldest sister.

Adam Mayes shot himself last month when police caught him. The two girls, Alexandria and Kyliyah Bain, were ok.

Now, no one is willing to claim Mayes's body. His family refused to take his remains, which are still at the medical examiner's office.

Mayes's wife and mother are behind bars in Hardeman County, accused of helping him take the girls. An affidavit filed in Bolivar, Tennessee, said Teresa Mayes of Guntown, Mississippi, told authorities she was there April 27 when Adam Mayes, killed Jo Ann Bain and her 14-year-old daughter, Adrienne, in a garage at their Whiteville, Tennessee, home.

Adam Mayes' mother, Mary Hayes, was also charged with four counts of Conspiracy to commit especially aggravated kidnapping.

If no one steps up soon, the county will cremate the body.
