NASHVILLE, Tenn. - More than 600 children were in town Sunday for Tennessee's largest kids triathlon.

The race included 200 kids who have participated in 7-week training programs at the YMCA of Middle Tennessee along with two girls who were taught to swim  through a unique partnership between Girls on the Run and the Nashville Kids Triathlon.

Held at Centennial Park and the Centennial Sportsplex, this is the second year for the event which has children as young as six all the way to age 15 competing. The race is broken down into age groups with the children swimming either 100 or 200 meters, biking for three or six miles, and then running either a half mile or a full mile, depending on their age.

"It's a great time to be together as a family and enjoy each other, and still get some fitness and exercise. You mix the running and the biking in, and this is a whole nother level of it," said parent, Rick Musacchio.

The number of athletes almost doubled since last year.

The Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital and Vanderbilt partnered with the event as part of their fight against childhood obesity.
