Medical Issue To Blame For Fatal I-24 Crash

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – One person was killed in a fatal rollover crash that blocked I-24 westbound, north of downtown Nashville.

The crash occurred just past mile marker 40 around 10:10 a.m. Monday.

Sky 5 HD showed a white pickup truck had rolled over, and landed upside down in the right side median of the interstate. Police said that 58-year-old Joe Darnell, Jr. was driving his Chevrolet pickup when he lost control and crashed into a rock wall near Old Hickory Boulevard in the Whites Creek area.

Darnell was not wearing a seatbelt, and died at the scene.

Officials said that a medical issue likely caused the crash. There was no evidence of alcohol involvement or excessive speed.
