14-Year-Old Girl Extremely Critical After Near Drowning

JACKSON, Tenn.- A 14-year-old girl in Jackson is in critical condition after nearly drowning in an Apartment pool over the weekend.

Police in Jackson said officers were called out to the Regency Apartments on North Highland Avenue just after 5 p.m. on Sunday. Officials said that two girls, 14-year-old and 13-year-old cousins snuck into the enclosed a swimming pool.

According to police the 14-year-old girl went to the deep end of the pool and went underwater. The 13-year-old tried to save her, and then went for help. Family members told police that neither girl could swim.

The 14-year-old girl was taken by emergency medical helicopter to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis. Police said she was listed in extremely critical condition.
