MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Three accused thieves are behind bars after police said they were caught burning incriminating evidence on a grill.
The 65-year-old victim lost her purse while shopping at this Murfreesboro Kroger and thought she seen the last of her items.
"I turned to look and saw the back of him and he grabbed my purse and ran," said the woman.
Thanks to some local shoppers, witnesses were able to get the license plate of the getaway car and police later arrested Andrew Smith, Jeremy Fleming and Myron Fleming.
Murfreesboro Police said they caught the trio behind their apartment with loot taken from a string of recent purse snatchings. At the apartment police found that the suspects had decided to have an impromptu barbeque, burning several of the items from the stolen purse.
"It turned out the leather purse and plastic from one of the stolen purses was what they were trying to burn on the grill," said Murfreesboro Police Officer Kyle Evans.
Officers were able to salvage much of the evidence. They are now questioning the suspects in connection with a series of recent purse snatchings.
